History
History:
The Walker House is a Federal style building located within the town of Lenox’s Historic District at 64 Walker Street. The building was constructed in 1804 as a residence for William Walker, a well-known Revolutionary War veteran who came home to Lenox to become the probate judge for Berkshire County. Over the course of history, the home went through several different residential uses and ownership.
After Judge Walker’s residence, it was obtained by the Rockwell family. The Rockwell’s retained ownership until the early 1900’s when the property was passed down to the Curtis family, owners of the Curtis Hotel. In the 1960’s the house was gifted to Bordentown Lenox School to be used as a dormitory until the 1970’s. Twenty years later, the property was then converted to its most recent use: a Bed and Breakfast called Walker House, tastefully operated for 34 years by Peggy and Richard Houdek, until its latest rebirth into The Walker House Residences.
The home's pedigree of highly respected tenants and century-spanning beauty has paved its significance in the town of Lenox.
Design & Restoration:
Allegrone Companies acquired the property with the intention of a historic restoration while converting into a multi-family residential.
With respect to its history, the original rustic interior has been restored to maintain its characteristic flair and old country charm; the exposed wood beam ceilings, brick chimneys, room layout, and stairways appear undisturbed from their original location as intended by the former architect. The exterior design remains as the Walker House with significant repairs done to restore the building back to its prime.
What sets Walker House Residences apart from other local apartment rentals are the readily available townhouse style units open for lease. Although the units are not townhouses by definition, the select units resemble the same multi-floor, open layout of a traditional familial home. Optimal glazing brings a copious amount of daylight to illuminate every room in each unit. Tenants will enjoy the luxury and prestige of living in an artfully historic home.
